WWE News: Lashley reveals who helped him sign with WWE
What's the story?
Impact Wrestling Superstar Bobby Lashley caught up with Sam Roberts from the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast and told him an interesting story. Some may remember him from his time in WWE, but what is intriguing is how he came to the company.
Yes, he arrived at the company thanks to none other than Kurt Angle. We thank Wrestling Inc. for the transcript.
In case you didn't know...
Lashley has had a spectacular career in Impact Wrestling, where he is currently feuding with Impact Wrestling superstar Moose. During his time in the company, he has been the Heavyweight Champion a sum total of four times in all.
Most people may remember Lashley from his 'Battle of the Billionaires' program with Donald Trump. To such fans, the story of what got him to the dance must be quite interesting indeed.
The heart of the matter
Lashley revealed it was none other than Kurt Angle who asked him to try out for WWE. At the time, Lashley was training for the 2004 Olympics:
Kurt had told me that he knows I loves the Olympics, but that I needed to think about something else, considering there is no pro sports. So, Kurt gave my number to Gerald Brisco for a tryout. My goal was always to win the Olympics so at the time, I had told Brisco to hold off on the tryout because winning the Olympics was my dream
Lashley had to drop his Olympic plans after he injured his knee. Thankfully, he became a legend in professional wrestling soon enough.
What's next?
The rivalry between Lashley and Moose has intensified on Impact Wrestling. The eventual match at Bound for Glory should be quite spectacular.
Author's take
I've spoken to Lashley in the past during interviews, and he makes no bones about Kurt Angle being a big influence on him. With their amateur wrestling backgrounds, both men are quite similar, really. Maybe Lashley will return to WWE someday, for another run!
