WWE News: Jim Ross opens up about Shinsuke Nakamura's main roster run and who WWE would love to sign soon
What's the story?
Legendary wrestling commentator Jim Ross was recently a guest on Sam Roberts's podcast, where he discussed a host of wrestling related topics. He gave his thoughts on Shinsuke Nakamura's dreary main-roster run and commented on younger wrestlers trying to establish a relationship with Vince McMahon.
In case you didn't know...
A former NXT Champion and one of the best 'Strong Style' wrestlers of all time, Shinsuke Nakamura was called up to WWE's main roster earlier this year, the day after Wrestlemania 33. Nakamura, who is a two-time NXT Champion, is considered as one of the most charismatic stars in the entire pro wrestling world, however, ever since his call-up to Smackdown Live, 'The Artist' has been booked in a very underwhelming manner by WWE creative.
The 37-year-old superstar has had victories over the likes of John Cena, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens since arriving at the Land of Opportunity. However, Nakamura found himself in the middle of an appalling rivalry against "The Modern Day Maharaja" Jinder Mahal over the WWE Championship and Nakamura's losses against Mahal.
The heart of the matter
During his interaction with Sam Roberts, Jim Ross said that the WWE Universe has not witnessed what Shinsuke Nakamura is totally capable and stated that he would love to see "The King of Strong Style" perform at his peak in the WWE once again. Ross then said that the prime example of a great Nakamura match is his clash against former Bullet Club leader and current WWE Champion, AJ Styles, at Wrestle Kingdom 10. The WWE commentator then labeled Styles as "one of the best in the world".
The 65-year-old then added that the current leader of the Bullet Club, Kenny Omega, is someone who perfectly connects with the crowd and believes that he is someone WWE would love to sign. Omega has claimed that WWE came knocking on his door countless times in 2014, but he rejected every offer that came his way.
Ross ended the statement saying that the three matches between Kazuchika Okada and Kenny Omega were absolutely tremendous, but according to him, the Nakamura-Styles matches are also up there with the Okada-Omega trilogy.
"Omega and (Kazuchika) Okada had three great matches this year but I thought that the Nakamura/AJ matches that I called were up there with them so it’s subjective right," said Ross.
What's next?
As for Shinsuke Nakamura, his next goal will be 2018 Royal Rumble, which he is already rumoured to be winning.
Author's Take
I agree with Jim Ross' statement here and I believe that the WWE is terribly misusing "The Artist". Nakamura is more than capable of putting up great matches against the likes of Styles, Zayn, and other top stars in the WWE.
