WWE News: WWE legend supports John Oliver's statements
What's the story?
Former WWE manager Jim Cornette recently took to Twitter to share his views on John Oliver's statements on Roman Reigns and WWE.
Cornette stated that it is the most truthful media piece he has seen in wrestling in over 40 years.
In case you didn't know...
Jim Cornette is widely regarded as being one of the most revolutionary managers in the history of professional wrestling. Cornette has managed the likes of Yokozuna and Vader while in WWE. Additionally, he has worked as the Executive Producer for Ring of Honor, an indie promotion.
John Oliver recently made waves after bashing WWE for the treatment of its wrestlers.
An independent contractor is someone you might hire for a specific, limited task. Like a plumber or an accountant, wrestlers aren’t either of those things.
As independent contractors, wrestlers are exempt from most discrimination and occupational safety laws. They don’t get paid annual leave, pensions or health insurance.
(When) independent contractors (are) working in a monopolized industry, largely free from meaningful oversight who are able to be fired at any time, you wind up with an environment with huge potential for unsafe conduct.
The heart of the matter
Cornette didn't mince his words while sharing his views on the controversy. He went on to praise Oliver for being truthful and blunt.
The wrestling world shook up as soon as Oliver's statements came out. WWE soon issued a statement as a response to his words.
The health and wellness of our performers is the single most important aspect of our business, and we have a comprehensive, longstanding Talent Wellness program.
What's next?
It would be interesting to see where this real-life storyline goes from here, now that WWE has responded to Oliver.
