WWE News: Lio Rush says it is time to reconsider his NXT career
What’s the story?
Following this week’s episode of NXT TV, NXT superstar Lio Rush was interviewed in the backstage area following his crushing loss to the undefeated Lars Sullivan. During Rush’s interview, the 23-year-old stated that it might be time for him to do some re-evaluating.
In case you didn’t know…
The past few months have been particularly rough for former CZW World Champion Lio Rush, who signed with the WWE in August of 2017. Rush is a former Ring of Honor star who has made a huge name for himself on the Independent scene during these past few years. The Man of the Hour is a former House of Glory Crown Jewel Champion and has also held the DDT Heavymetalweight Championship in the past as well.
However, after signing with the WWE last year, Rush attracted a lot of negative heat towards himself after he made a controversial tweet regarding Emma’s firing from the WWE. Things have gone downhill for Rush ever since he made that tweet.
The heart of the matter
During this week’s episode of NXT, Lio Rush had the uphill task of defeating the walking behemoth, that is, Lars Sullivan who is still undefeated ever since his arrival in the WWE. Following his devastating loss to Sullivan, Rush was interviewed by Christy St. Cloud who asked the former MCW Tag Team Champion about his current situation.
Rush first started off the interview by saying he knew exactly what he was getting into in his match against Lars Sullivan. Rush said that he knew Lars was the bigger and stronger man in this contest, but according to Rush, he has spent his entire life fighting against opponents who were bigger than him and has never backed down from a challenge.
Additionally, the former CZW Champion claimed that ever since he signed for NXT things haven’t been going according to his plans and believes that it may be time for him to do some re-evaluating.
What’s next?
Lio Rush’s current situation in NXT is a bit confusing, to say the least, and it will be interesting to note if the NXT creative and management decides to send him to the main roster or if they decide to bring a change in Lio Rush’s gimmick and repackage him completely, only time will decide Lio Rush’s future within the future.
Author’s Take
I believe that it is time for people to move on from Lio Rush’s controversial tweet and I personally, think that a change in character for Lio will be perfect for him. I think that this is the perfect time for WWE to introduce Lio Rush’s Blackheart gimmick, which he previously used in CZW.
