WWE News: Mark Henry on how The Rock helped him in his early days
What’s the story?
Prior to his WWE Hall of Fame induction earlier this evening, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry was involved in an exclusive interview on live Post-Wrestling podcast at WaleMania, where the World’s Strongest Man shared the stories of WWE veterans helping him in the early days of his career.
In case you didn’t know…
After serving the WWE for well over two decades, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry has seemingly retired from in-ring competition after having made his Professional Wrestling debut back in 1996.
Henry’s last match in WWE took place during Wrestlemania 33 when he competed in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal match and the former World’s Strongest Man has also previously held numerous titles such as the ECW and WWE European Championships.
The heart of the matter
While speaking on the live Post Wrestling podcast, Mark Henry noted that during the early stages of his Pro Wrestling career he apparently received a lot of support and help from the late-great Owen Hart and fellow WWE veteran Billy Gunn as well.
However, other than Billy Gunn and Owen Hart, there have also been a bunch of superstars who have helped Mark Henry in his journey in the Pro Wrestling industry and his rise to the top of this business and one of them is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. (H/T: WrestlingInc)
"Even though [The Rock] was in the business the same amount of time as I was at that time, I mean I had a four-month jump on him, but he grew up in wrestling. So, he knew the protocols, he knew like 'don't do this,' and 'do that.'
I was a video game head and I liked sports games and stuff like that... so, [The Rock] was like, 'This is what you do.' And I was like, wow, I did it, and stopped getting in trouble and started getting more pushed to the front of the line and the rest was history."
What’s next?
Following Mark Henry’s prestigious Hall of Fame induction earlier today, it’ll also be interesting to note if the former WWE World Champion will return to in-ring competition someday or not, after having teased the possibility of making a comeback to the squared circle during his induction ceremony.
