What’s the story?

While co-hosting this week’s edition of Busted Open Radio alongside Dave LaGreca, WWE Superstar Mark Henry spoke and opened up about his relationship with former WWE Intercontinental Champion and the late great Owen Hart.

In case you didn’t know…

In the year 1997, Owen Hart started portraying a gimmick billed as 'The Lone Hart' and also 'The Black Hart', as during a tag team match with Ken Shamrock against Mark Henry and The Rock, Hart decided to turn his back on Shamrock and align himself with the Nation of Domination, a faction which was led by The Rock at the time and consisted of Henry, Savio Vega, Kama Mustafa and more.

Hart, later on, explained that enough was enough and it was time for a change, thus explaining the reason behind his heel turn. Following Hart’s alignment with The Nation, their first feud was against D-Generation X.

The heart of the matter

While recently talking to his co-host Dave LaGreca on the latest edition of Busted Open Radio, Mark Henry stated that Owen Hart was a council and was a teacher to him first, and then like a brother.

Additionally, Henry claimed that Owen Hart was a great mentor to him back in the day and also took care of the former World’s Strongest Man, and taught him how to relate to the locker room during his initial stages in the WWE.

"We also talked about psychology, we traveled the world together, and Owen didn’t like to drive. [laughs] I liked to drive, so it was like a match made in heaven, like OK I’ll jump out and get some food and jump back in."

Henry said, he had built a very good and solid relationship with Owen Hart who helped out the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion in various ways, especially after Henry made his return from Canada in 1998-99.

Furthermore, Henry also stated that if he ever gets the honor of going into the WWE Hall of Fame, then he would also like to have his brother Owen Hart get inducted into the prestigious WWE Hall of Fame class.

"I was saying to you, if I’m ever blessed to go into the [WWE] Hall of Fame, I would want to go in with my brother. I would want to at least be able to tell [Owen’s wife] Martha that whatever the business did to hurt her and the family — I want to apologize, because Owen would do it for me. He deserves to be in his rightful place, and that’s in the Hall Of Fame."

What’s next?

As for Mark Henry, it seems that the former ECW Champion is currently semi-retired from Pro Wrestling. Henry last competed in a squared circle at the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 33 and also recently made a guest appearance on the 25th-anniversary episode of Monday Night Raw.

Author’s Take

I absolutely agree with Mark Henry’s comments on Owen Hart and I do believe that the former IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion deserves to go into the WWE Hall of Fame.
