WWE News: Match added to NXT TakeOver card
What's the story?
On a conference call to promote the upcoming NXT TakeOver, Triple H confirmed a fifth match has been added to the card for Saturday's event in Philadelphia.
With an already impressive card, many people wondered who would complete the line-up, and that match has now been confirmed - Kassius Ohno will go up against Velveteen Dream!
In case you didn't know...
There were already four matches confirmed for the weekend's event.
Andrade 'Cien' Almas defends his NXT Championship against Johnny Gargano in the main event. There is also an Extreme Rules Match between Aleister Black and Adam Cole - a match that Triple H noted was not booked as a nod to ECW in Philadelphia, as he wants to focus on the future rather than the past.
The other two matches that make up the card are an NXT Women’s Championship Match between Ember Moon and Shayna Baszler, and an NXT Tag Team Championship Match between The Undisputed Era and The Authors of Pain.
The heart of the matter
Well, it was highly expected that a fifth match would be added to the card with speculation suggesting that any combination of Velveteen Dream, Kassius Ohno, Lars Sullivan and Roderick Strong would be added.
Velveteen Dream had been hotly tipped to make it onto the card after his incredible match against Aleister Black, which many people said was the match of the night, at the last NXT TakeOver in November.
Kassius Ohno meanwhile has been a bit stop-start since returning to WWE little over a year ago when he seemed a dead cert to be in or around the NXT Championship - but he also lost at the last TakeOver event against Lars Sullivan.
What's next?
Well, the match itself! NXT TakeOver takes place in the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Saturday, live on the WWE Network.
It has also been announced that Samoa Joe will be on the pre-show, and these two definitely add to an already stacked card!
Triple H noted that the crowd in Philadelphia will be particularly hot, too, so this event already looks like it may set a pretty high bar for Royal Rumble to follow.
Author's take
More matches on an NXT TakeOver event are always good. We already know that there will be some tapings before the event for future episodes of NXT, but it's cool to see these two guys get a spot on the card.
Velveteen Dream and Kassius Ohno are both hugely popular but seem to be stuck in the mid card a bit when it comes to NXT, so it'll be great to see these guys go out and try to steal the show on Saturday.
