The Singh Brothers make their entrance for their match against Shinsuke Nakamura
The Singh Brothers make their entrance for their match against Shinsuke Nakamura

What's the story?

Jinder Mahal was in the ring on Smackdown Live to address the crowd and challenge Brock Lesnar to a match at Survivor Series. After he had issued the challenge he was interrupted by AJ Styles and ended up retreating to the back after a Pele Kick.

Furious with Styles he demanded a match between Styles and Sunil Singh of the Singh Brothers for the next episode of Smackdown Live, which was confirmed and made official by Daniel Bryan.

In case you didn't know...

Jinder Mahal was able to fend off Shinsuke Nakamura for the second time when he was challenged by the Japanese star at Hell in a Cell. The following week he went on a tour of India to promote the upcoming WWE Live Events scheduled there, where he will defend his WWE Championship in a match against Kevin Owens.

AJ Styles lost the United States Championship to Baron Corbin at Hell in a Cell and lost the subsequent rematch for the title as well. With Baron now focusing on other opponents, AJ seems to be out of the title picture for the United States Championship. Instead, he seems to be focusing his attention on the WWE Championship chase.

The heart of the matter

Jinder Mahal in his promo said that he had beaten anyone worth beating on Smackdown Live having beaten Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura. He went on to challenge Lesnar, but AJ Styles interrupted him after he had laid down his challenge. He pointed out that Jinder had not yet beaten AJ Styles on Smackdown Live.

Things devolved from there, as Jinder tried to get physical with AJ, but instead had to beat a hasty retreat after a Pele Kick. Backstage, Jinder confronted Daniel Bryan to demand a match for Sunil Singh against AJ to take place on the next Smackdown Live.

Bryan made the match official, while Sunil was caught out by surprise in the beginning but put aside his doubts to impress the Modern Day Maharaja.

This will be one of the only times since their debut on the main roster, that the Singh Brothers will see action in the ring, instead of being present ringside for Jinder.

What's next?

Sunil Singh will look to take on AJ Styles as the match is set for the next episode of Smackdown Live.

Author's take

It is unlikely that Sunil will face AJ alone, and will most likely be accompanied ringside by his brother, and Jinder Mahal. Mahal will look for a way to get back his own on AJ, and that might come after the end of the match using the superior numbers game.

AJ and Sunil make for an entertaining match though and bring back memories of the time AJ faced James Ellsworth in a feud.
