WWE News: Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt set to clash at The Hardy Compound
What's the story?
Monday Night Raw tonight saw Bray Wyatt defeat Rhyno without much fanfare. Right after the match was over, Wyatt called out Matt Hardy, to rousing chants of 'DELETE' from the fans.
Matt Hardy appeared on the titantron and concurred that the 'Great War' was far from over and that it could only culminate at The Hardy Compound.
In case you didn’t know…
Matt Hardy had a rebirth of sorts when he debuted his 'Broken' gimmick on Impact Wrestling back in 2016 and went to have a lengthy feud with 'Brother Nero' Jeff Hardy, culminating in a match at The Hardy Compound.
After returning to WWE at WrestleMania last year, Matt and Jeff went on to have a good run as Tag Team Champions. With Jeff Hardy currently on the sidelines with an injury, and after Impact dropped their legal claim to the gimmick, Matt finally took on his 'Broken' gimmick in WWE and has been engaged in a long-term feud with Bray Wyatt.
The heart of the matter
The feud between 'Broken' Matt and "The Eater of Worlds" has been seemingly losing steam. It looked like their rivalry might end at the Elimination Chamber where Hardy picked up the win, but this past week on Raw, the feud just got a lot more interesting.
After beating Rhyno, Bray Wyatt went on to call out Matt Hardy, stating that the 'Final Deletion' was far from over. 'Broken' Hardy appeared on the titan-tron and concurred that 'The Great War' was not over, and that if Wyatt wanted to go against him once against, it could not be contained within 'the mortal realm known as WWE'.
In a manner that only he can, Hardy went on to say that such a cosmic combat could only take place at The Hardy Compound!
What's next?
It looks like we might see a return of classic characters like the Vanguard1 and Senor Benjamin, but this time in WWE! Though not yet confirmed, it looks like The Ultimate Deletion is set to take place at WrestleMania this year.
Author's take
The Hardy Compound is back! What started off as one of the most bizarre gimmicks in pro wrestling, turned out to be one of the most popular ones of all time! Kudos to Matt Hardy for reinventing himself and for daring to experiment with such a gimmick.
That being said, I just hope WWE doesn't drop the ball with the Hardy Compound match like they did with the disaster that was House of Horrors.
