What’s the story?

In an interview with IGN, Matt Hardy opened up on a myriad of topics.

‘Woken’ Matt Hardy addressed criticisms from the hardcore professional wrestling community about his Woken/Broken character. Besides, Hardy also spoke about a potential Final Deletion-style match between him and Bray Wyatt in the WWE.

In case you didn’t know…

Matt Hardy, who popularized the ‘Broken’ gimmick in Impact Wrestling back in 2016, has received considerable praise for the same ever since.

Nevertheless, Hardy spent the better part of 2017 in a legal battle with Impact Wrestling parent company Anthem, over the intellectual property rights of the Broken gimmick; with the legal issues now resolved, he began portraying the Broken persona in WWE, albeit as ‘Woken’ Matt Hardy.

The heart of the matter

Although Matt Hardy’s Woken persona has been well-received by the WWE Universe and casual fans in particular, a certain section of the hardcore professional wrestling community opine that the gimmick is playing out a tad too slow on Raw.

Matt Hardy addressed the aforementioned conundrum; asserting that the hardcore fans need to understand that patience is paramount. He added—

“There’s such a huge percentage of the WWE Universe and the WWE fan-base who aren’t familiar with the story of the Woken-slash-Broken character so we have to educate them and get them up to speed and help them understand what’s going on. And that’s something the die-hard fans are frustrated with. But things are going to get where they need to be and this is a process now that’s playing out over TV. The biggest thing I’d say to people is just sit back and enjoy this truly, truly fun and jubilant ride.”

Furthermore, upon being probed as to whether there’s a chance of seeing a Final Deletion-style showdown between him and Bray Wyatt as WWE previously attempted similar segments with Wyatt in the past, Hardy exclaimed that it is indeed one hundred percent possible to have a Final Deletion-style battle in WWE.

What’s next?

Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt are presently engaged in a feud on Monday Night RAW.

The feud is expected to reach a crescendo at the WWE’s Royal Rumble PPV event which takes place later this month.

Author’s take

Matt Hardy is spot-on in his assessment of the hardcore fans’ criticism of the Woken character playing out in the WWE. After all, good things come to people who wait.

Besides, here’s something to refresh fans’ memories on how stupendous Final Deletion could be—
