WWE News: Matt Hardy's contract expiry date revealed
What's the story?
When responding to a fan on Twitter who thought that he was "threatening" to leave WWE, tag team legend Matt Hardy revealed that he wasn't threatening, but simply stating a fact, and that he had just 11 days left on his WWE contract.
As of this writing, he has just 10 days left.
In case you didn't know...
Matt Hardy hasn't been seen on WWE television since losing the RAW Tag Team Championship to the B-Team. At that stage, he was a part of a babyface tag team with Bray Wyatt, who he formed an alliance with the night of WrestleMania 34 when he won the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal, becoming the fourth winner of the trophy.
Since then, he's been inactive and teased a retirement when he said he was done with all his live event obligations. However, Hardy insisted many times that he wasn't retiring just yet. Recently, he said that he was medically cleared to compete again, but hasn't returned.
The heart of the matter
The likely reason why Hardy is being kept off TV is that his contract is expiring in ten days as of this writing. Here's what Matt Hardy tweeted out in reply to a fan:
Hardy doesn't have too much mileage left in his career, but given all that he's achieved and the tenure he's had, there's no doubt that he can retire peacefully. He's a surefire Hall of Famer with his brother Jeff Hardy, who currently competes on SmackDown Live.
Hardy claims that he won't delete the Tweet. His sense of job security is understandable, given the success, he's had in Impact Wrestling and even outside. With someone with a name like Matt Hardy, it's safe to say that he won't exactly find it troublesome to find work.
What's next?
Hardy may appear for the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal, but it's doubtful if we'll see him as a featured in-ring performer in WWE consistently anymore.
