WWE News: Mick Foley comments on his iconic rivalry with The Rock
What’s the story?
Former Raw General Manager and WWE veteran Mick Foley was recently interviewed by ESPN, during which Foley spoke about his Mankind character, his iconic feud with The Rock, and who would win a match between his three personas.
In case you didn’t know…
During his time with the WWE, Foley was known for portraying three different personas, Mankind, Dude Love, and Cactus Jack. Mankind was a mentally deranged maniac/schizophrenic, who sported a spooky mask and lived in boiler rooms.
On the other hand, Foley’s Dude Love character was almost the complete opposite of Mankind and the gimmick was rather very ‘happy-go-lucky’.
Lastly, the WWE Universe witnessed Mick Foley’s greatest manifestation ever, that is, Cactus Jack. Cactus Jack was by far the most disturbing character of Mick Foley, who was obsessed with barbed wires and thumbtacks and was a sadistic psycho who always intended to hurt his opponent in the worst possible manner.
The heart of the matter
While speaking with ESPN, Mick Foley opened up about his Mankind gimmick and his feud with The Rock, and also commented on a possible match-up between Dude Love, Mankind, and Cactus Jack. Here are a few highlights from the interview:
What hooked the newer fans during his feud with The Rock:
According to Foley, he and The Rock played off really well against each other during their intense feud during the attitude era.
"If you were an uninitiated viewer and tuning in, you'd say, 'So wait a minute, the ugly guy with the mask and tattered shirt ... he's a good guy? And this other guy who looks like he's carved out of marble, he's the bad guy?' But it worked. We played off each other."- Foley stated.
One of the reasons why he needed another persona, aside from Mankind:
Foley stated that Mankind’s mask started to get smellier and smellier, the more he wore it and at one point it became too much.
On who would win a triple threat match between Dude Love, Mankind, and Cactus Jack:
Mick Foley believes that if his three personas ever faceoff against each other in a triple threat match then Dude Love is likely to come out as the winner of the contest.
What’s next?
As noted previously, Mick Foley was apparently invited to make an appearance at Raw’s 25th Anniversary special show, however, Foley will not be able to make it to the show due to him being on a family vacation on the very same day.
Author’s Take
All three of Mick Foley’s personas were equally amazing and there is no doubt whatsoever that all Foley himself has done a tremendous job in maintaining all his gimmicks accordingly throughout the attitude era and the ruthless aggression era as well.
