WWE News: MMA star talks locker room backlash for Ronda Rousey, takes a dig at pro wrestling

Not everyone in the locker room is happy to see Rousey

What's the story?

MMA superstar Ronda Rousey made waves when she showed up in WWE, following the first-ever Women's Royal Rumble. Unfortunately, there was much backlash from the locker room, following her arrival.

Fellow MMA star Chael Sonnen had a few choice words about Ronda Rousey's arrival and the reception that she's been receiving. We thank Wrestling Inc. for the said transcript.

In case you didn't know...

Ronda Rousey's WWE arrival has been the biggest story in wrestling, in all of 2018. Immediately after her arrival, she received a lot of flak from the women in WWE, who felt that she had overshadowed the historic Women's Royal Rumble.

Women such as Nia Jax and Nikki Bella went on to social media, and let their feelings be known. Chael Sonnen weighed in on the locker room backlash, and provided his own thoughts on the matter.

The heart of the matter

Sonnen discussed the social media flak that Ronda Rousey had received:

Ronda's getting all sorts of problems from the locker room at the WWE. Now she can deal with them, she's a big girl, it's going to go that way. There should be when an outsider comes in and all of a sudden get that huge push

Sonnen believed that the right thing to do would be for her to put someone over, to get the heat off Rousey. Of course, WWE wouldn't do this. Sonnen claimed that WWE needed someone to explain to the locker room that what they did wasn't real. He also took a dig at wrestlers that took professional wrestling seriously:

I mean, there's guys who have won 17 world championships, they really think they did! They really think they were 17-time world champ. Well, you know, not really, you didn't really win. Yes I did, I've got the belt, go watch the tape. Uh, okay.

What's next?

We patiently await Ronda Rousey's next appearance. We're certain that she's going to show up on the road to WrestleMania 34. It'll be interesting to see what's next for this woman!

Author's take

MMA stars who call wrestling 'fake' somehow invariably make me see red. However, it's Chael Sonnen and he's someone who's known for being rather controversial.

In any case, I have a feeling that this whole 'backlash' is actually a work.
