MVP praises TNA and NJPW

What’s the story?

In a recent edition of The Roman Show, MVP elucidated on the importance of a promotion such as TNA in the professional wrestling world.

Additionally, he revealed his personal favourite pro-wrestling organization to be NJPW (New Japan Pro Wrestling). Besides, MVP also spoke about how the WWE Universe getting exposed to the NJPW product is a positive phenomenon.

In case you didn’t know…

MVP is perhaps best known for his time in the WWE from 2005-10, apart from a brief stint in TNA/Impact Wrestling.

Speaking of which, the 43-year-old former IWGP Intercontinental Champion and the two-time WWE United States Champ has been lauded by many for his work in NJPW as well.

The heart of the matter

MVP explained that he does consider NJPW to be his favorite wrestling promotion, and is proud to say that when he left WWE for NJPW back in 2010, no one other than hardcore fans knew about the Japanese promotion. However, now the latter is regarded as a legitimate competitor to the WWE.

Furthermore, MVP pointed out the fact that NJPW stars and factions have been selling impressive amounts of merchandise worldwide; with several Bullet Club T-Shirts donned by the audience at wrestling shows in the States too. He continued—

"I don't know what to say about them—it's constant mismanagement. Some of the greatest talents came from there, guys like Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles, Bobby Roode. You have all these guys that aren't there anymore.”
“TNA was must successful under Jeff Jarrett's leadership. Under Dixie Carter, it spiraled under. I was hoping Jeff Jarrett would raise it, but I don't know, it remains to be seen—our industry needs TNA.”

MVP capped off his talk about wrestling organizations, adding that working in NJPW and wrestling at the Tokyo Dome was his dream. He also stated that he’s happy that WWE fans are warming up to the Japanese product.

What’s next?

MVP presently competes on the indie circuit and is likely to continue there for the next few years.

Author’s take:

MVP is a criminally underrated performer and I really do want to see him wrestle with NJPW full-time.

He’s a great fit as a heel and can portray the villainous foreign star to it's best on the Japanese circuit.
