What’s the story?

In an interview with Scott Fishman of TV Insider, Natalya opened up on a myriad of topics.

Natalya asserted that it isn’t her place to judge whether or not Rousey’s debut was executed the correct way by the WWE. Besides, Natalya also revealed the backstage perception—in the women’s locker room, in particular—to Rousey’s debut.

In case you didn’t know…

Ronda Rousey debuted as a part of the WWE roster at the Royal Rumble PPV event a few days back.

The main event of the evening saw Asuka win the inaugural Women’s Royal Rumble Match, following which 'The Empress of Tomorrow' faced off with RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss and SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair. The entrance song that Rousey has used throughout her UFC career—‘Bad Reputation’ by Joan Jett—sounded, and out came the former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion.

Rousey offered a handshake to Asuka, only to get her hand swatted away by 'The Japanese Phenom', following which the former pointed to the WrestleMania sign, walked over to Stephanie McMahon, shook her hand, and then made her way to the back.

The heart of the matter

Natalya explained how, given that her husband Tyson Kidd works as a producer backstage for the WWE, the couple has friendly exchanges of their opinions while driving from one town to another. Nevertheless, as regards the way WWE chose to have Ronda Rousey debut, she doesn’t feel necessary to deem it right or wrong but is just happy to see her friend in the WWE.

In fact, Natalya stated that she met Rousey backstage and was so delighted at seeing her friend that she picked her off the ground. Nattie added that most other female superstars backstage may have varying opinions on Rousey, however, everyone has a right to speak their mind.

Furthermore, Natalya explained that Rousey is going to be an excellent fit in the WWE, as the latter has the right attitude and wants to get to know the girls. Nattie continued that she has tremendous respect for the history of the WWE, and brings attention to the company in a lot of ways. Nattie stated—

"I'll tell you one thing because I am in the women's locker room. There is nothing but respect towards Ronda, no matter how anyone felt (about) how they debuted her. I think we are all excited about having her there because there are so many possibilities of what we can do with her. We are all wondering if she is going to be on Raw or SmackDown, (and) I really want to work with her, because I know we would tear it up."

What’s next?

Ronda Rousey is presently busy filming her movie ‘Mile 22’ in Colombia. Rousey is set to report to the WWE Performance Center once she’s done with her Hollywood obligations, following which she’s set to feature in a prominent match at Wrestlemania 34.

Author’s take

Ronda Rousey is a once in a generation talent and an incredible athlete.

It’s great to see the respect that exists between Natalya and Rousey, and here’s hoping we get to see the duo work together in potential storylines in the days to come.
