WWE News: New Champion crowned on Monday Night Raw
Dean Ambrose had an incredibly tough challenge on Monday Night Raw tonight. Not only would he have to defend his Intercontinental Championship against his former friend Seth Rollins, but Bobby Lashley was also in the mix. A Triple Threat for the title was not what the Lunatic wanted, but he came into the match ready with a few plans.
Ambrose attempted to reform his partnership with Rollins at the beginning of the bout, hoping to take down Bobby Lashley first. Rollins wasn't having any of it and immediately shoved Ambrose out of the ring. Rollins and Lashley then traded shots with each other, until Ambrose finally got back into the mix.
It was a match full of heavy hits and big impacts, and there were multiple moments where the WWE Universe thought Seth Rollins would emerge as the new champion. Sadly for the Architect, Lashley's manager Lio Rush was there to constantly get in the way.
At the end of the match, Rollins had Ambrose set up for the Curb Stomp. However, when he went running off the ropes, Rush pulled them down, bringing him crashing down to the floor outside. A dizzy Ambrose saw what happened, but before he could capitalize and try to put away Lashley, the Almighty One delivered a deadly spear to the champion and pinned him for the win.
Bobby Lashley captured his first Intercontinental Championship tonight, his first WWE title in over seven years. In his first run with the WWE, Lashley was a former United States and ECW Champion. However, picking up the working horse title in his first year back is a big step for the Dominator, who looks to be set for a huge year in 2019.
