WWE News: New Day claims that Vince McMahon allows them to say anything on TV
What’s the story?
In a recent interview with William Mullally, The New Day discussed their WWE promos and mentioned the fact that Vince McMahon allows them to say whatever they want on TV.
In case you didn’t know…
The New Day is a group that consists of Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods. The group has been one of the hottest acts of the last few years and has held the WWE Tag Team titles on four different occasions. Since its inception in 2014, the group has also claimed the Pro Wrestling Illustrated Tag Team of the year award on two different occasions, winning it in 2015 and 2016.
The heart of the matter
The trio of Kofi, Big E and Xavier Woods recently sat down to have a chat with William Mullally. During the interview, they stated that they are pretty much allowed to say anything on TV, in front of a live audience, as long as it is a hit.
The group said that sometimes they go out in front of the WWE universe and say whatever they want, as long as Vince McMahon thinks it’s going to click with the audience. They claimed that the only thing the WWE chairman cares about is if the live audience is going to react to the promo or not.
“A lot of times, when we are given the stuff to say, we just say what we want to say. As long as it hits… that is all Vince cares about.”- Kofi Kingston stated.
But, however, they went on to add that there have been times when the chairman does not agree with the promo the trio comes up with. But he eventually gives them the green light to deliver it, once he notices that the crowd are enjoying themselves on the night.
“Even when he doesn’t agree with what we want to say, he looks at the crowd, sees everyone having a good time and trusts we are able to deliver” — the trio added.
Big E also said that it took the New Day a lot of hard work in order to gain Vince’s trust.
What’s next?
The New Day is currently in an ongoing feud with The Usos, over the Smackdown Tag Team Titles. The two teams have faced each other on numerous occasions over the past recent weeks and have always delivered.
The New Day will next defend the belts against The Usos at Hell in a Cell, which will take place on October 08, 2017.
Author’s take
It is really often when you see Vince McMahon allowing someone to write and come up with their own promos, but it is surely great to see the New Day gaining Vince's trust and writing their own lines.
The group is pure gold on the mic and have tremendous mic skills, and as well as the ability to cut a promo. In my opinion, Vince should let not only the New Day but also several other superstars to write their own promos, instead of just following a script.
