WWE News: New US Champion crowned on WWE SmackDown Live
What's the story?
This week's episode of WWE SmackDown Live saw a title change take place.
R-Truth won the United States Title recently and took it upon himself to emulate his 'childhood' hero, John Cena. The only part that struck a wrong chord about that entire gimmick was that R-Truth is the same age as John Cena, but since it is R-Truth, I think we can safely say that was his 'bad'.
Unfortunately, he lost the title this week, when put the United States Title on the line in a Fatal Fourway match.
In case you didn't know...
R-Truth found himself having a run of luck in WWE recently. Despite losing his Royal Rumble spot to Nia Jax, he got a title match against the United States Champion, Shinsuke Nakamura.
In an unexpected twist, R-Truth defeated Shinsuke Nakamura. Before he could even properly celebrate his win, Rusev came out demanding a match against R-Truth as he had never received his rematch against Shinsuke Nakamura after losing the United States Championship in the first place.
R-Truth defeated him as well with a roll-up and continued his streak of good luck. Last week saw R-Truth defend his title in an Open Challenge against Rey Mysterio and Andrade 'Cien' Almas. There too, much to the surprise of everyone involved, he was able to retain.
His run of good luck would not last.
The heart of the matter
This week's episode saw him defend the WWE United States Title against Andrade 'Cien' Almas, Rey Mysterio, and Samoa Joe, in a Fatal Fourway match.
The match saw R-Truth try his best, but be kept out of the ring for large parts of the action.
In the end, it was Samoa Joe who ended up winning the WWE United States Title after taking out Rey Mysterio with a backdrop.
He is now the new United States Champion.
What's next?
Samoa Joe as Champion will be quite a fearsome prospect for anyone wishing to challenge for a title. Could there be a Championship feud between him and John Cena heading into WrestleMania 35 with WWE possibly hinting at the prospect?
We will have to wait and see.
