WWE News: Nia Jax and Apollo Crews announced as team for Mixed Match Challenge
What’s the Story?
Raw Superstars Apollo Crews and Nia Jax have been announced as a team for the upcoming Mixed Match Challenge.
In Case You Didn’t Know
The Mixed Match Challenge is a Facebook-exclusive show which will feature eight teams from Raw and SmackDown competing to win $100,000 on behalf of their respective charities.
The Heart of the Matter
The following is the press release WWE issued regarding the announcement of the team of Crews and Jax:
Crews has found new life since aligning himself with Titus Worldwide, as the partnership has armed the grappler with a great deal of momentum. Crews replaces Enzo Amore in the revolutionary competition after the WWE Cruiserweight Champion took ill with the flu. Despite Crews’ enormous enthusiasm, however, Jax doesn’t appear over-excited at the prospect of their new union.
An intimidating tour-de-force inside the squared circle, Nia initially entertained the hope of forming a dominant tag team with the likes of Braun Strowman, who was instead paired up with her best friend Alexa Bliss. Considering their rocky start, can Jax and Crews can get on the same page and make an effective run to win the Mixed Match Challenge?
Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore was listed as a participant and was expected by many to team with Jax, but Amore was stricken with the flu which prevented him participating in the tournament as well as defending his Cruiserweight Championship against Cedric Alexander this past Monday.
What’s Next?
There are six teams announced so far for the Mixed Match Challenge: Crews & Jax, Alexa Bliss & Braun Strowman, Rusev & Lana, Bobby Roode & Charlotte Flair, Jimmy Uso & Naomi, and Sasha Banks & Finn Bálor.
The Mixed Match Challenge will air after SmackDown Live and start on Tuesday, January 16.
