WWE News: Nikki Bella says John Cena is the best there’s ever been on the microphone

John Cena

What’s the story?

Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Roddy Piper, the Rock—we could argue all day about the best talkers in history but according to Nikki Bella, there’s only one man worthy of that title.

Bella recently spoke to the Mirror, where she gave her thoughts on that promo between John Cena and Roman Reigns from Raw last week, before going on to note that she thinks her fiancè Cena is “absolutely the best talent there has ever been on the mic.”

Nothing like sitting on the fence there, Nikki.

In case you didn’t know…

Last week on Raw, Cena and Reigns went at on the mic with a scripted shoot-style promo that had many onlookers questioning what was real and what wasn’t. We saw Cena talk about turning heel, breaking the fourth wall and calling out Reigns on a number of points that were a little too close to home.

Reigns responded with some barbs of his own about Cena being a part-timer and burying up-and-coming talent, but it was Cena who got the last laugh and put Reigns in his place, specifically with the line: “I can do this part-time better than you could ever do it full-time.”

Going in depth

As well as hyping up Cena as the best there’s ever been on the mic, Bella also noted that she “absolutely loved” the promo between Reigns and her husband. She went on to speak about the sense of reality that he brings to his promos as well as how his quickness “is what has made him an amazing actor, especially with comedy.”

What's next?

As if you needed to know, Cena and Reigns are set to face off at the Raw-exclusive No Mercy pay-per-view on September 24th in Los Angeles. With two episodes of Raw to come before then, that means there's plenty of time for further drama unfold between these two in the next couple of weeks.

Author's take

On face value, there’s certainly a case to be made for Cena being one of the best talkers in history. But if we’re basing that judgment off of the Reigns promo alone, it’s a little more difficult to agree with Bella here.

Cena undoubtedly came off looking better than Reigns last Monday on Raw, but is that necessarily the point of a promo? Guys like Flair have always been commended for making their opponents look credible in interviews, and you could easily argue that's not something Cena achieved with Reigns on Raw last week.
