WWE News: Nikki Bella teases a rematch with Charlotte on Twitter
What’s the story?
On the latest episode of SmackDown Live, we learnt that Charlotte has been moved to the blue brand via the Superstar Shake-up. On April 12th, Nikki Bella tweeted her thoughts on SmackDown’s newest acquisition and a potential rematch between the two former Divas Champions.
In case you didn’t know...
Nikki Bella has been off television since WrestleMania 33 where her and now fiancee, John Cena, defeated The Miz and Maryse in a highly publicised mixed tag team match. After years of waiting, Cena proposed to Nikki after the WrestleMania match in front of the thousands in attendance.
She is now taking time off to nurse injuries and enjoy her engagement. Charlotte and Nikki Bella have history between them. When Charlotte made her debut with the company in the summer of 2015, Nikki Bella, the WWE Divas Champion at the time, was her first premiere singles opponent.
Charlotte defeated Nikki for the WWE Divas Championship that same summer at Night Of Champions. Until facing Charlotte, Nikki Bella held the WWE Divas Championship for 301 consecutive days. That reign is the longest of any Divas Champion in the history of the WWE.
The heart of the matter
After Charlotte appeared on SmackDown Live this week, Nikki Bella took to twitter to discuss the drastic shift in the SmackDown Live women’s division.
The impact
There has been much speculation as to what the future looks like for Nikki Bella in the WWE. With her and John Cena getting married in the near future, her sister Brie welcoming a baby into the world soon, and her injury history, it’s easy to believe that we could have seen the last of Nikki inside a squared circle.
This tweet, however, changes the ball game. Before now, we haven’t gotten any inclination from Nikki directly on what her future plans are. Now we have. Clearly, her intentions are to work hard, heal up, and head back to SmackDown Live stronger than ever before.
Author’s take
I’m not a Nikki Bella fan. That said, throughout the years, Nikki Bella has become one of the most improved WWE stars on the roster. Period. She entered the company at a time where the women’s division was made up of models rolling around a wrestling ring strictly because they looked good.
Nikki escaped that mould and worked incredibly hard to do so. Because of that hard work, she can have solid matches with any opponent on the roster. I find that her work comes off as “real” regardless of who she is in the ring with.
I don’t love her character, but I respect her as a performer. If she comes back, a feud with Charlotte is something that should happen and one that would be very intriguing for anyone watching SmackDown Live.
