What's the story?

NXT is set to unveil another Championship next Saturday night as it was revealed this week on NXT that there will be a six-man ladder match to crown the inaugural North American Champion at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans.

In case you didn't know...

NXT already has three Championships without counting the United Kingdom title, which is rarely defended and isn't set to be defended at NXT TakeOver next weekend. It seems that the company has decided to give their developmental brand another Championship and it is also a great way to bring in a number of stars as part of the six-man ladder match, something that the WrestleMania show is currently lacking.

It is unknown how this new Championship will fit into NXT's programming, but it is thought that it will work on the brand as a mid-card title like Raw and SmackDown currently use the United States and Intercontinental Championships.

The heart of the matter

General manager William Regal opened NXT this week by announcing that the company will unveil their newest title at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, the North American Championship. Before he could give details he was interrupted by the debuting Ethan Carter who then became the first participant in the six-man ladder match.

Velveteen Dream, Adam Cole, Lars Sullivan, Killian Dain, and the debuting Ricochet were also added to the match in what is considered to be one of the biggest matches on the card next weekend. All six men have a reason to be part of this match and some have history including Dain and Sullivan who collide on NXT next week.

What's next?

The six-man ladder match will take place next weekend at NXT Takeover: New Orleans and will see the North American Championship unveiled for the first time.

Author's take

Velveteen Dream and Adam Cole have definitely stood out over the past few months and could easily steal the show here, whilst Lars Sullivan and Killian Dane have unfinished business with each other which will only get worse after their showdown next week.

Ricochet and Ethan Carter will be making their debuts in this match and have to make a decent first impression, this means that this match could easily steal the show next weekend and could set the tone for WrestleMania weekend as a whole.
