WWE News: NXT announces WarGames match for next TakeOver special (Spoiler)

Wa
War Games is actually happening!

What's the story?

There is a reason why NXT is a favourite promotion in the eyes of the Internet Wrestling Community. They pull out all stops for every TakeOver show and it looks like NXT TakeOver: Houston will be no different. Only at last night's NXT television tapings, the next TakeOver in Houston got a new name. It is now known as NXT TakeOver: WarGames and there's a very good reason why.

In case you didn't know...

The WarGames matches became a staple of the NWA and WCW's Fall Brawl pay-per-view. This historically brutal and bloody match consisted of two rings positioned side-by-side surrounded by a cage.

Over a series of rounds, every man in a multi-team match would enter the fray and the conclusion always amounted in an astounding display of carnage and savagery.

Once every competitor was in the fight, "The Match Beyond" began. There were no pinfalls, DQs, or countouts in WarGames and the only way to win was after someone submitted or was straight-up knocked out.

WarGames was always a fan favourite but for some reason, it hasn't seen the light of day in WWE, even though Vince McMahon owns the right to the intellectual property. That was the story until Wednesday night's NXT television tapings.

What's the story?

[Warning: Huge spoilers ahead...you've been warned.]

Ever since Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish banded together to form The Undisputed Era, they've hard their eye on Roderick Strong. After all, ROH guys tend to stick together and they'd love to have his talent in their stable.

But at last night's NXT television taping, Roderick Strong turned down an offer to join The Undisputed Era and a brawl ensued. Authors Of Pain ran out to join Roderick Strong in his defense which could signify their babyface turn, but that wasn't quite made clear. What was very apparent was when SAnitY joined the fray something major was about to happen.

A WarGames Match was booked for the WWE Network special formally known as NXT TakeOver: Houston. Now rechristened NXT TakeOver: WarGames, this event is going to be even more amazing.

If you can't quite picture the ring in the description above, here's an old WarGames shot from the WCW days. Just imagine what kind of fun The Undisputed Era, SaNITy, and Authors Of Pain with Roderick Strong are going to have in Houston.

The man Triple H himself took to Twitter to officially announce WarGames at Survivor Series weekend.

What's next?

WarGames is going to happen, so you guys can check that one off your list of "things that should be a reality in WWE." It's just an NXT TakeOver special for now. But the main roster recently did a shark cage gimmick a few months after NXT dusted off the old-school concept.

Who knows if we could eventually see more of these action-packed matches in the future?

Author's take

WarGames is a beautiful chaos that fans flocked to on a yearly basis. There were some people who didn't watch WCW all year in favor of WWE but they never missed a WarGames match.

NXT TakeOver: WarGames was already great enough, especially with the confirmation of a fatal four-way match for the vacant NXT Women's Championship. A WarGames match is just icing on the cake... in fact, it might be an entirely separate cake complete with icing, sprinkles, and beautiful calligraphy reading "we love you Triple H."

There's already a considerable amount of buzz about this match. Let's hope it goes well and they're able to tear the house down. Because it would be excellent to see a WarGames match highlighted on a main roster pay-per-view eventually.
