WWE News: NXT Superstar Chris Atkins has been released
What’s the story?
Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that WWE has released NXT star Chris Atkins from his contract. At the time of this writing, it is unclear why he was released.
In case you didn’t know...
Chris Atkins signed a developmental deal with the WWE in 2015 after a tryout at the Performance Center.
The heart of the matter
While there is no word about the reason behind Atkins’ release, one can assume that he just wasn’t progressing as much as the trainers wanted. According to the Pro Fight Database, he’s only had ten matches between May 2016 and April of this year.
Outside of a draw against Mojo Rawley, Atkins lost all of his other matches. Of those ten matches, only two were on television.

What’s next?
It is unknown what Atkins’ next step will be. However, his release from NXT doesn’t necessarily spell the end of his wrestling career. Lest we forget, there have been wrestlers who didn’t make it in NXT that have surfaced in Impact Wrestling such as Marcus Louis and Sylvester Lefort.
Author’s take
To be honest, it will be hard to miss a guy that we’ve rarely seen. He clearly has a great look, but that can only get you so far. Maybe, he can hone his skills and get another chance with WWE down the road.
