What’s the story?

After news broke of WrestleMania 35 returning to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, WWE made a big announcement about the NXT TakeOver special during their WrestleMania 35 press conference.

The NXT TakeOver Special for WrestleMania 35 weekend will return to the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, New York for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn V.

In case you didn’t know...

NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn was the first TakeOver event to take place outside of Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida.

As NXT continued to grow and hold Takeover shows in various cities, TakeOver: Brooklyn held the distinction of running in the exact same building as SummerSlam every year.

The heart of the matter

WWE will return to the Barclays Center in August 2018 for SummerSlam weekend which will include TakeOver: Brooklyn IV as well as the Raw and SmackDown episodes after SummerSlam.

The announcement for TakeOver: Brooklyn V will mark the first time that WWE has run Barclays Center twice for the same event, outside of SummerSlam weekend.

Each TakeOver: Brooklyn show has been produced incredible matches with the initial show featuring the WWE debut of the legendary Jushin Thunder Liger, Sasha Banks vs Bayley for the NXT Women’s Championship and Finn Bálor vs Kevin Owens for the NXT Championship.

TakeOver: Brooklyn II featured Shinsuke Nakamura vs Samoa Joe for the NXT Championship and the NXT Tag Team match between the team of Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa and The Revival.

The latest show, TakeOver: Brooklyn III, featured Drew McIntyre vs Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship and the debut of Adam Cole, Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly as The Undisputed Era.

What’s next?

WWE will also run the Barclays Center for all of WrestleMania weekend’s TV programming and will dominate the New York and New Jersey area bringing in tens of thousands of local and international fans.

There will also be a multitude of wrestling companies who will come to those cities looking to cash in on the wrestling fandom.

Author’s take

New York looks to make a killing with WWE bringing them both SummerSlam and WrestleMania weekend events.

Let’s all just hope that the shows for WrestleMania 35 weekend don’t turn up like WrestleMania 29.
