WWE News: Original plans for the main event of WrestleMania 27 revealed
After more than 5 years of it's happening, WrestleMania 27 is remembered to be one of the least acclaimed Wrestlemania WWE has produced on the critical side.
While the event had some high points such as the match between The Undertaker and Triple H or the Rock's promo, the fact that it was main evented by The Miz, or that it featured a 8 men tag team match which lasted about one and a half minute is the reason why it was widely met with mixed reactions.
Now as the New Era of WWE is in full effect and we are heading towards another exciting WrestleMania seasons, Dave Meltzer has revealed that WWE originally had very different plans for the main event of the 27th edition of their demolition derby.
During the recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer revealed that officials originally had plans for the Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar to face off against The Dead Man the Undertaker for the main event of 2011's WrestleMania.
The match obviously didn't take place and the reason behind it is said to be Brock Lesnar's UFC contract which the Beast was bound with during that time.
However, continuing on the topic Dave revealed that after UFC officials declined WWE's offer to let Brock fight at Mania, Vince McMahon came up with another crazy idea for the main event of The Granddaddy of all wrestling events.
According to the man behind Wrestling Observer Brand, after the plans involving The Beast got cancelled, Mr. McMahon proposed UFC president Dana White to face none other than the chairman of WWE himself for the main event of WrestleMania XXVII.
These plans were also allegedly nixed after the UFC official declined the offer to become a part of the biggest pro wrestling event of the year.
From a fan's perspective having a match between The Undertaker and Lesnar is understandable as any match involving these two athletes is easily worthy of being the main event for a WWE PPV. This fact was proven recently when these two former WWE Champions were in the main event of WWE Hell in A Cell PPV last year.
Not only that, a match between these two would have meant that Triple H could have faced any other star, adding some more wrestling component on the show, something which many felt to be widely lacking from the program.
Although what Vince had in mind while proposing a match between himself and Dana to main event a show of such calibre is very hard to understand.
After so many years of the event, one can only imagine how any of these two planned main events could have affected the WrestleMania 27 event both critically and financially.
