WrestleMania 24 is now just over four months away
WrestleMania 24 is now just over four months away

What's the story?

WrestleMania is the biggest event on the WWE calendar and for the second time in four years, next year's WrestleMania will be held in New Orleans, Louisianna.

The city of New Orleans will be celebrating their tricentennial in 2018 so it made sense for WWE to want to go back to The Mercedes Benz Superdome, but it seems that this wasn't the original plan.

In case you didn't know..

WWE presented perhaps the biggest WrestleMania in recent memory from New Orleans back in 2014 when Daniel Bryan walked out as World Champion following WrestleMania 30.

Many of the WWE Universe were then disappointed that the company had decided to return to the same location for the second time in four years for WrestleMania 34.

The decision made perfect business sense for WWE because WrestleMania will now feature in New Orleans during the city’s tricentennial celebration next April which will definitely add to the atmosphere for the biggest event of the year.

There were a number of cities that came forward to host WrestleMania in 2018 and it seems that East Rutherford, New Jersey was one of these cities that was knocked out of the running by New Orleans Louisianna.

The heart of the matter

Mike Johnson of PWInsider recently reported that the original idea was for WrestleMania 34 to be presented from the Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, a location that was only used for WrestleMania back in 2013.

A year later, WrestleMania streamed live from New Orleans as they celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the biggest show of the year back in 2014. WWE changed their minds about the location when New Orleans swooped in with an incredible presentation for WWE's biggest event of the year to be part of their celebrations.

New Jersey was shortlisted to be the ones hosting the event, which could have huge implications when it comes to the city that is most likely to host WrestleMania 35 in 2019.

What's next?

WrestleMania is the biggest show of the year and it is also the final show of WWE's calendar year since the company often books from April to April. There are a number of rumours floating around about the main event of next year's show, with Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns currently the most likely match to main event the show which takes place on April 8th, 2018.

The Royal Rumble is now less than a month away and it seems that even though the location for the show is already determined, the card will begin to shape up in the coming months.

Authors take

WrestleMania is an event that many different cities have wanted to host. Even the United Kingdom have been hoping to hold an event of that calibre with many UK fans praying that WrestleMania 35 could be the first WrestleMania to take place outside of North America.

While nothing has been determined yet, it seems unlikely now that New Jersey has been overlooked for next year's event. But there is plenty of time for WWE to make history and bring WrestleMania across the pond in the coming years.
