WWE News: Origins of Goldberg's iconic phrase revealed
Bill Goldberg recently participated in an interview with Stone Cold Steve Austin, on his podcast The Steve Austin Show. Goldberg discussed a variety of topics on the show such as, how Hulk Hogan helped him out during his run in WCW, his current training regime, his thoughts on the superstars of today, and the origin of his catch-phrase “Who’s Next?”.
Here’s what he said:
So, I’m sitting down in a restaurant with one of the producers of the Love Boat and my brother, Steve. And we’re about to order and the producer looks at me and he says, ‘you know, you have to have a gimmick; you have to have a saying; you have to have a slogan; you’ve got to get people behind you’ and I said, ‘you know what? You’re right.’
So, the waitress comes up, and she looks, and she goes, ‘who’s next?’ and that was it. I swear to God, I looked at them, and I went, ‘that’s it! Who’s next?’ because after I beat the first guy, it’s open f–king season! So it’s perfect! It’s plain, it’s simple, and it’s straight to the point. I don’t like to be wordy. It gives to many options to people to tear you down.”
With the birth of this iconic catch-phrase, Goldberg instantly shot to fame in WCW and later in the WWE. As a longtime wrestling fan, finally getting to know the origin story of one of the greatest catch phrases in wrestling history, is a treat.
Goldberg will be making his much-awaited in-ring return, at WWE’s annual Survivor Series PPV, against none other than the Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar.
