Paige confirmed her retirement tonight

Well, it was the news we had all been dreading, but tonight on Raw after WrestleMania, Paige finally retired from in-ring competition at the age of only 25 years.

Coming completely full circle, Paige announced her retirement in New Orleans, four years after debuting on the Raw After Mania, where she won the Divas Championship on her WWE main roster debut.

Paige thanked Daniel Bryan and spoke of his inspiring comeback, before mentioning that she had spoken to Edge, a man who also was forced to retire due to injury, and discovered there's a life outside of wrestling and, that she has to go and find that.

Paige was injured during a six-woman Tag Team match at the tail-end of last year, at a New York house show, with the match being stopped after Paige took a heavy knock.

Medical staff were required, and a stretcher was called out, but Paige was able to walk to the back, hinting initially that the injury may not be too serious, but the reports following had hinted at a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with WWE and Paige being pretty quiet on the matter until now, and her poignant goodbye was confirmed tonight in the building where she kickstarted her WWE career.

You can see the footage of her injury below.

In an incredibly emotional goodbye, the fans gave the Anti-Diva a rapturous applause with chants of "Thank you, Paige" and "This is your house."

Paige thanked the audience and told them she loved them all, before placing her t-shirt on the canvas and taking her leave, doing her patented sidestep up the ramp with tears streaming from her face.

What an absolutely heartbreaking moment, but we at Sportskeeda wish Paige all the best with whatever her future holds.
