WWE News: Paul Heyman reveals why he's proud of Roman Reigns
What's the story?
At WrestleMania 34, they will be on opposite sides. However, Paul Heyman, advocate of the WWE Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar, caught up with Nola.com, and praised Roman Reigns on assuming the role of the locker room leader.
We thank 411Mania for the transcript. Roman Reigns has earned the respect of the boys backstage, despite the fan backlash.
In case you didn't know...
The position of the locker room leader was held by The Undertaker, for the duration that he was a full-time member of the roster. Upon his departure, it seems that Reigns has stepped up and assumed the mantle of leadership, quite seamlessly.
The locker room leader is often the representative of the talent and the liaison between the talent and the management. The coveted position is awarded to the man who is respected by most, if not all, of the locker room.
The heart of the matter
Paul Heyman elaborated as to why he was proud of Roman Reigns:
I very much like the fact that Roman Reigns has accepted the responsibility of being the leader of the locker room. He has assumed the mantle of being the conscience of the roster. Having seen him grow up in and around this business, I’m very proud of Roman Reigns.
While they may be adversaries on screen, it seems that Heyman has the utmost respect for the man who plays the character. Little wonder then that The Beast will probably do the honours for the Big Dog, come WrestleMania 34.
What's next?
Following WrestleMania 34, Lesnar's future is uncertain. The same is true for Heyman as well, who may explore opportunities outside professional wrestling. Reigns will probably lead the charge as the Universal Champion.
Author's take
Reigns has certainly earned my respect by stepping up his game and delivering, week after week. I'm not surprised he's earned the respect of the locker room too.
I am certain that in time, the crowd will come around as well.
