WWE News: Paul Heyman speaks about possibility of working with Ronda Rousey
What's the story?
Well, after we reported yesterday that WWE decided against the idea of pairing Paul Heyman and Ronda Rousey, the genius behind ECW spoke last night about the possibility of working with the UFC star.
Heyman took to the stage in New Orleans last night and suggested that he may be open to working with Rousey in the future - but said working "against" her would be a better deal and outlined other female talents he'd much rather be paired with.
In case you didn't know...
While Ronda Rousey makes her in-ring debut at WrestleMania on Sunday, Paul Heyman looks to be leaving WWE as his client moves in the opposite direction - back to UFC.
Heyman commented that if Brock leaves, he'll also leave WWE, but said he may be open to returning in the future.
The heart of the matter
Cageside Seats reports that, during his one-man show last night, Paul Heyman addressed the possibility of working with Ronda Rousey, or maybe another WWE talent.
That said, Heyman refuses to rule out working with a member of the WWE female roster or taking on another position with the company.
I’m very intrigued with the possibility of Ronda Rousey, but the question would be, am I intrigued with the possibility of working next to Ronda Rousey or opposed to Ronda Rousey?
Paul Heyman went on to name two other female Superstars he'd love to work alongside in WWE.
Because there are other members of the female roster. I’ve made it no secret—I think that Charlotte Flair will main event WrestleMania. I’m a big fan of Asuka.
To end the topic on a lighter note, Paul Heyman also popped the crowd at The Advocate of Extreme: An Evening With Paul Heyman when he added:
“I’m a big fan of Mandy Rose but for a whole, different reason.”
What's next?
Ronda Rousey debuts on Sunday at WrestleMania 34 when she will up with Kurt Angle to face Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Where she goes thereafter is anyone's guess.
The other ladies Paul Heyman mentioned, Asuka and Charlotte, face off for the SmackDown Championship in a Title vs Streak Match - while Paul Heyman may be accompanying Brock Lesnar to a WWE ring for the final time in the main event against Roman Reigns.
Author's take
Needless to say, I'd love any of the options Paul Heyman mentioned. I think he's a huge loss to WWE if he leaves with Brock Lesnar, and I think Charlotte or Asuka would be a great choice for Heyman to "manage" next.
I actually think a heel Nia Jax would have been a great choice, too, but she looks set for a huge babyface run. One other talent Heyman would do well alongside, I think, is actually the partner of Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville.
To cut to the chase, Paul Heyman is one of the best speakers in the business. Pair him with anyone and it'll be money.
