WWE News: Pete Dunne challenges 205 Live superstar to a UK Title match
What’s the story?
Current WWE UK Champion, Pete Dunne recently sent out a tweet claiming that he would like to defend his WWE UK Championship against fellow NXT superstar Hideo Itami, before Itami’s departure to the main roster.
In case you didn't know…
WWE announced last week that top NXT superstar and Japanese sensation Hideo Itami is set to make his main roster debut, as part of the 205 Live cruiserweight division.
Itami has been a part of the NXT roster since 2014 but has not been able to reach up to his full potential in WWE's development brand, due to his constant injury problems. However, the former NOAH superstar is now set to become 205 Live's latest addition.
On the other hand, Pete Dunne's journey in NXT is the complete opposite of Itami's. "The Bruiserweight" is the current UK Champion; a title that he won back earlier in the year, by defeating Tyler Bate in Chicago.
Dunne has since then defended his title against the likes of Wolfgang, Trent Seven, and Johnny Gargano and much more.
The heart of the matter
Earlier today, Pete Dunne laid down a challenge for 205 Live's latest recruit, Hideo Itami.
Dunne took it to his official Twitter handle and quoted one of Itami's particular tweet and replied to the former GHC Heavyweight Champion by stating a tweet that read: "Fancy a UK title shot before you go?"
Dunne's tweet clearly indicated that he wants to defend his UK Title against Itami, in a match that might turn out to be Itami's farewell match from NXT.
What's next?
Hideo Itami is still yet to hand out a reply to Pete Dunne's tweet. t will be interesting to note if the former three-time GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion will accept Dunne's challenge or not.
Author's Take
In my opinion, I believe that this match against Pete Dunne will be Hideo Itami's final match in NXT.
However, there is no doubt that almost every wrestling fan around the planet wants to see both Itami and Dunne collide for the UK Championship because both of them are considered two of the very best wrestlers on the planet today and will surely put up one of the best matches of all time.
