WWE News: Philadelphia fans trolled into thinking Kurt Angle was returning on Raw
What’s the story?
The fans in Philadelphia are one lively bunch. On a lackluster go-home episode of RAW, the ever-so-vocal Philly fans did all they could to keep themselves entertained and while they may have done the obvious by chanting CM Punk’s name, they made sure the final episode before WrestleMania was a happening ordeal.
WWE too decided to have some fun and trolled the fans in attendance by playing Kurt Angle’s music while the commentary team hyped up the upcoming Hall of Fame induction ceremony during a filler segment.
Here is a video shot by a fan in attendance:

In case you didn’t know....
The final episode of Raw before the show of shows fell flat as it lacked the necessary elements to get the fans all pumped up for the ultimate PPV in pro wrestling. With Goldberg and Lesnar’s final confrontation ending in the Myth getting the better of the Beast Incarnate with a solitary spear, the fans were left desiring for more.
Seth Rollins returned to confirm a non-sanctioned WrestleMania match against Triple H while Undertaker sent a chilling warning to Roman Reigns – who cut a decent promo – to wrap up the final build-up.
The rest of the undercard also underwent some predictable build-up and nothing out of the ordinary was booked by the WWE Creative.
As for Kurt Angle, the Olympic gold medalist is set to be inducted by John Cena into the WWE Hall of Fame on the 31st March.
The heart of the matter
WWE took the opportunity to get the hopes of the Philly fans a little bit high by playing Angle’s music on Raw. The commentary team on Raw were talking about Angle when the music played in the background and naturally, the ‘you suck’ chants echoed around the arena in all its glory.
There were no images on the Titantron, just the iconic theme playing with the fans losing their minds over the potential appearance. Sadly for them, it was just a hoax and a move done to make the viewers back at home get a better experience of what the commentators were conveying.
What’s next?
Angle will make his WWE TV return for the first time in 12 years on Friday at the induction ceremony and will be immortalized alongside other legendary names in the Hall of Fame. NXT Takeover will air the next day on Saturday before WrestleMania fever takes over on Sunday.
Angle is expected to return on both the fallout episodes of Raw and SmackDown after WrestleMania. How WWE plans on using him is still a mystery, with a possible General Manager’s role on Raw being one of the proposed options. Triple H even hinted at Angle returning for one final in-ring run. Fingers crossed!
Author’s take
I must admit that Angle's theme instantly woke me up in the middle of the snoozefest that was Raw. We all know WWE won’t waste Angle on an unadvertised return and for that very reason, I wasn’t disappointed like many of the fans back in Philly.
A well-exected troll nonetheless.
