WWE News: Possible reason behind Drew McIntyre's injury at Takeover: WarGames
What’s the story?
During the recent NXT Takeover event (Takeover: Wargames) former NXT Champion Drew McIntyre seemed to have suffered an injury during his title match against Andrade Cien Almas.
It has been noted that McIntyre suffered a torn bicep injury at the end of the match and one the speculations have lead towards the fact that the Scottish superstar might have torn his bicep due to him holding on to the rope for a bit longer while Almas was hitting a DDT on Drew.
In case you didn’t know…
Earlier this week, WWE NXT superstar and former NXT Champion Drew McIntyre defended his NXT Title against Andrade Cien Almas, during Takeover: WarGames, in Houston, Texas on the 18th of November.
The match between Almas and McIntyre was a rock solid bout, the two men have great in-ring chemistry with each other and wrestled each other to a great match.
However, by the end of the contest, it was the Mexican superstar who stood tall over McIntyre as he [Almas] defeated Drew McIntyre to become the new NXT Champion.
The heart of the matter
Following McIntyre’s devastating title loss at Takeover: WarGames, it was speculated by many Pro Wrestling journalists that Scottish star lost his championship due to an unfortunate bicep injury, which he may have suffered during his match against Andrade Cien Almas.
It has been speculated that the likely reason why McIntyre suffered the bicep injury was due to him holding on to the rope for a bit too long during the last spot of the match where Almas connected a DDT on Drew, from the top rope to win the title.
Former ECW legend Taz, also seemingly said that McIntyre’s injury occurred due to him holding on to the top rope during the finish of the match. It was also added by Taz that the injury might have separated the base of McIntyre’s bicep.
What’s next?
Due to the injury, McIntyre will now be sidelined for a while and it has also been rumoured that the former NXT Champion could be out for a total of six months.
The former NXT Champion himself has also said that he knows the injury is definitely not a good sign, but, he will wait for the doctor to release an official statement and confirm for how long McIntyre will be sidelined.
Author’s Take
I think the first and most important reason why McIntyre lost his title was due to the injury he suffered at WarGames. However, on the other hand, I certainly hope that the 32-year-old recovers from his injury and gets back into the ring once again, and gets back to competing as soon as possible.
