WWE News: Randy Orton comments on his match with Brock Lesnar, appearance on Shooter and more
WWE Superstar Randy Orton had an interview recently with USA Today’s, For The Win. Apart from discussing the current WWE storylines involving him, Orton was asked to comment about his encounter with Brock Lesnar earlier this year at SummerSlam.
The match, which came to an abrupt end when Lesnar TKO-ed Orton, didn't live up to the expectations of the audience. However, the Apex Predator believes that the encounter has created "a buzz" in the pro-wrestling industry.
Orton feels that even if WWE booked him "a little better" during that match with Lesnar, the dominating character of the Beast Incarnate would have remained intact. The former World Champion commented that the fans would eventually lose interest in a Lesnar match if WWE continues to book him "as a monster who destroys guys who work 200 days a year."
Watch the encounter from this year’s SummerSlam:
It was hard to witness when Lesnar was striking the Legend Killer with vicious elbows to his head. That beat-down resulted in a concussion, which sidelined Orton from in-ring competition for the next month. During this interview, Orton confirmed that he was aware of what was going to happen in the ring, although the fact that he couldn’t wrestle for a month pissed him off:
"We say this a lot in the back when someone gets hit harder than intended, we knew what we were signing up for. It's a rough sport. It's a rough business and very physical.”
Orton went on to reveal that he got the opportunity to perform in the American television drama series, Shooter, while he was recovering from a shoulder injury last winter. The fact that he was unable to work the hectic WWE schedule and was easily available for the shooting helped him to earn a spot on the show.
The Viper mentioned that he didn’t have to audition for the role as the USA Network had already informed WWE about their interest to work with him for the project. Here’s what he said:
“It was really cool that they picked me. It does make you feel good.”
The former World Champion also applauded the entire crew for supporting him, especially the director Ryan Phillippe. Randy Orton also commented that his involvement in an angle with The Wyatt Family is intriguing. He joined forces with Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper this October, and the trio has been dominating the blue brand ever since.
The new Wyatt Family, with Orton, went on to defeat Heath Slater and Rhyno for the Smackdown Tag Team Championship at TLC pay-per-view.
