WWE News: Randy Orton creates history by pinning AJ Styles on SmackDown Live
What's the story?
Randy Orton is one of the all-time greats in the wrestling business with 13 world championship runs. With his appearance on SmackDown Live, he created another WWE record on last night's show.
Currently, he is tied in third place for most number of WWE television matches. Even though the match only lasted a jiffy, it was a historic moment.
In case you didn't know...
Ahead of the WWE Championship match at the Elimination Chamber, the men involved competed in a gauntlet match. The winner of the match would go on to enter the Elimination Chamber match last and thereby, hold the advantage.
Through the course of the match, it did seem like Kofi Kingston would win the whole thing, until he lost to AJ Styles. Styles would be pinned by Orton with an amazing RKO out of nowhere.
Randy Orton holds the advantage as we head into the Elimination Chamber match on Sunday.
The heart of the matter
Orton Tweeted the following statistic out, informing the WWE Universe of his achievement. He is currently in third place for most number of television matches and is tied with Chris Jericho in this regard:
After a few more wins, Orton could potentially surpass The Big Show who holds a substantial lead over him but who is also currently segueing into becoming a part-time performer. According to the comments in this thread, Kane is the clear leader in terms of TV matches, leading the pack by quite a margin. Orton could potentially surpass both men as he is merely 38 years old right now.
What's next?
Randy Orton could potentially become WWE Champion at Elimination Chamber. While he has not been at the top of the heap in quite some time, he remains a prominent player. Orton could certainly have a few world championship runs in him.
