WWE News: Randy Orton to take a hiatus next year
What's the story?
As per PW Insider, Randy Orton will be taking time off next February and March. He will also be working a reduced schedule for 2018.
The reason for the off is not clear as of now, but the fact that we will be seeing less of Orton next year is almost certain.
In case you didn't know...
Randy Orton is currently embroiled in a feud with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn after they cost Team Smackdown a win at Survivor Series in the traditional 5-on-5 men's elimination match, by interfering in the middle of the match.
Orton and his tag-team partner Shinsuke Nakamura took on the team of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens at the Clash Of Champions PPV event in a losing effort.
Randy Orton has been a part of WWE since 2002 and has held the World Championship 13 times; so it is understandable that the Superstar wants to start a lighter schedule from next year.
The heart of the matter
Randy Orton has been one of the most consistent people on the Roster and unlike his batchmates from OVW like Brock Lesnar and John Cena, has stuck with the WWE and not ventured out into other endeavours as much.
Orton is one of the veterans on the roster and has helped the Smackdown brand gain momentum after the brand-split last year.
Some feel that Orton's character has gotten stale over time so a lighter schedule and 2-months off would help him freshen thing up.
What's next?
Although Orton won the Royal Rumble last year, many believed him to be the favourite to win again this year too; but with the 2-month hiatus planned, that seems doubtful now.
Orton will continue to feature on Smackdown and possibly start making sporadic appearances from next year.
Author's take
Randy Orton definitely deserves some time off; not only will it help him rejuvenate his character but also give other Superstars on the roster to take a greater role and fill the void he will leave.
