WWE News: Raven explains why The Undertaker was relegated to 'Creature Feature' matches

The Undertaker battled several giants at the beginning of his career

What’s the story?

Raven (real name Scott Levy), a former WWE (then WWF) Hardcore Champion, revealed in an interview with Sports Illustrated that The Undertaker would have been World Champion for a lot longer if he been “a few inches shorter”.

In case you didn't know...

Raven recently confirmed Bret Hart’s story about The Undertaker’s role in the locker room after The Hitman left WWE. Hart had allegedly written Taker a letter asking him to take over his spot as the leader of the dressing room.

The heart of the matter

The Undertaker, being 6’10”, was given the character of a monster and became a regular in the “Creature Feature” matches; in other words, he was only allowed to fight big guys. He apparently didn’t get to show off his talents till later in his career.

Raven said:

"If he had been six inches shorter, he would have been the perennial world champion.”

The former WWE Superstar added:

"It wasn't until near the end of his career when he finally started being able to show that he could actually work, but, by then, he wasn't anywhere near the worker he was ten years before that. He was amazing,"

What’s next?

The Undertaker will probably not be seen in the ring for a while after WrestleMania 33 where after his match against Roman Reigns, he symbolically took off his gloves, hat and coat and left them in the middle of the ring before disappearing into the floor of the stadium.

Although WWE never gave an official statement, fans and critics accepted this as Taker’s retirement.

Author’s take

WWE most likely wants to keep the possibility of an Undertaker return open by not announcing his retirement officially. If The Undertaker does get a second retirement match, it should definitely be against a legend of his stature if not Sting himself.
