WWE News: Real reason we haven't had John Cena vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania yet
What's the story?
16-time WWE Champion John Cena, a man who does not often do podcasts, was a guest on E&C's Pod of Awesomeness. For almost an hour, the legend discussed a variety of topics.
He was asked why the dream match of John Cena vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania had never taken place. Cena had a very interesting response to the question. Thank you to Wrestling Inc. for the transcript.
In case you didn't know...
For two men to have been at the top of WWE for as long as they have and to not have faced each other at WrestleMania is strange. Fans have longed for a clash between The Undertaker and John Cena for a while now, but every year plans get thwarted and replaced with something else.
John Cena revealed the reason why the contest has been held off, so far.
The heart of the matter
When asked why The Undertaker and Cena have never faced one another, the latter said he would be more than thrilled to face The Phenom and even went as far as to call it 'every pro wrestler's dream' match. However, he was quick to add the following:
We have to do the best for WrestleMania, period. That event is completely [essential to] the fiscal future of the company and every single year, there were plans to do the right thing for WrestleMania and that match was not in the plans. And that's the best I can say.
Cena added that he showed up for work, to do work and did not have any regrets with regard to how his career had panned out. He did say however that if put together the right way, he'd have loved to work this match.
What's next?
Speculation was abundant that The Undertaker and John Cena would clash at Survivor Series this year. For the time being, neither man seems to be part of the company's immediate plans.
Author's take
This is a match that would have been exciting a few years ago, but The Undertaker is in no shape to compete at an elite level anymore, really. WWE missed an opportunity with this dream match, in my opinion.
