WWE News: Reason Jason Jordan and not Chad Gable was chosen to be Kurt Angle's son revealed

What's the story?

In a recent interview with Fox Sports Australia, Kurt Angle said that Jason Jordan was chosen to be his illegitimate son in storyline as the latter was in greater need of the exposure than Chad Gable.

In case you didn't know...

The reason why the Jason Jordan reveal felt like such a surprise was that everyone thought it was going to be Chad Gable.

Gable just made significantly more sense; people had been comparing the curly-haired member of American Alpha to Kurt Angle ever since he first appeared in the WWE, and they both have an Olympic background as well as a similar build.

But despite all of that, the left-field choice of Jason Jordan was made. At the time it felt like a swerve for the sake of swerving the audience as the WWE must have noticed that people had already guessed what was happening online. But it turns out the reason is much more positive.

The heart of the matter

It actually turns out that the WWE always had their eye on one of American Alpha to be Angle's son for a while, but whilst Gable would have made more sense they went for Jordan instead simply because he needed the rub more. Here's Kurt Angle explaining this decision to Fox Sports in Australia (via GiveMeSport):

“Gable reminds a lot of people of me. They’re both great talents, and the one who needed a bit more help and a bit of a rub was Jason. He is a little timid … but in the ring, he’s an animal. The entertainment factor — he might need a little more help. I think they made the right call because they both are going to be huge stars.”

What's next?

Admittedly the WWE weren't really doing anything with American Alpha on SmackDown LIVE which was a shame in itself, but since Jason Jordan moved over to Raw neither he, nor Chad Gable on SmackDown have really amounted to much, and the pair seem to have stagnated whilst apart.

There's still more planned for Jordan and Raw General Manager Kurt Angle on Raw, so we'll have to stay tuned as the story develops, but it pains me to say that so far I've been underwhelmed by the payoff to the months-long build up the storyline received.

As for Gable, he's found a new exciting tag team partner in Shelton Benjamin but they seem to be treading water in the SmackDown Live tag team division with The Usos, The New Day and even the Fashion Police proving more popular at the moment.

Author's take

I believe that Kurt Angle is right when he says that both members of American Alpha, Jason Jordan and Chad Gable have bright futures in the WWE, even if it doesn't look so promising for them all right now.

Maybe at some point, they need to be reunited as a tag team again?
