WWE News: Reason why Apollo Crews has been allowed to work an independent event
What's the story?
Late last week it was revealed by Powerbomb TV on their Twitter page that WWE star Apollo Crews would be part of PCW's Road To Glory event in February 2018. It seems that this is an Independent event that WWE have approved Crews's attendance in and there is a very simple business reason to it.
In case you didn't know...
Apollo was a huge hit as Uhaa Nation on the Independent Circuit before he was signed by WWE a few years ago. One of the places that Apollo was a well-known star was at PCW in Preston, England.
The company has a huge following all over the UK and will be happy to see a member of their alumni returning for one of their biggest events of the year.
Apollo hasn't been a huge hit on the main roster ever since he was promoted on the Raw after WrestleMania last year, but it seems that the company have still managed to find a way to ensure that he's able to perform and even allowed him to return to one of his old promotions.
The heart of the matter
Apollo Crews is scheduled to be part of PCW's Road to Glory Tournament on February 10th, but it seems that despite online speculation, this isn't because the former NXT star is going to be released.
It has been reported that PCW promoter Steve Fludder has an exclusive deal with an arena in Blackpool, England that the WWE wants to use in the future. So by allowing Apollo to return to a company where he was once one of their biggest stars, WWE is making sure that they will be able to use the arena for their future events.
Blackpool was the city that staged the WWE United Kingdom tournament back in January and it seems that WWE plans to have more events there in the future.
What's next?
WWE has allowed the United Kingdom Superstars to become part of a number of their shows over the past year, but whilst they have mainly been performing on NXT, Pete Dunne recently made his Monday Night Raw debut.
Dunne alongside Tyler Bate recently had another match of the year candidate on NXT and it seems that this could be one of the main reasons that the company are looking to book future events. Of course, there is also the rumoured weekly United Kingdom show that WWE should be looking into in the coming months.
Author's take
WWE is a company and they always do what's best for business. If allowing Apollo to return for a one-off show in Preston means that they will be able to acquire a venue for all their future United Kingdom events, then it makes sense that the company have allowed it.
Apollo isn't really doing anything on WWE TV right now and his inclusion in the event is the first time he's been in the news this year, so it seems to be working out well for all parties involved.
