Rey Mysterio promises to be back in the ring next month

What’s the story?

On a recent edition of Below The Belt, Rey Mysterio spoke to host Brendan Schaub on a myriad of topics.

Mysterio also opened up as to whether he’ll be competing at WrestleMania 34; asserting that while he won’t wrestle at the event, he’s indeed looking forward to it.

In case you didn’t know…

Rey Mysterio is a former WWE Champion and World Heavyweight titleholder, whose resume in the world of professional wrestling is held in high regard.

After parting ways with the WWE in 2015, Mysterio competed extensively on the independent professional wrestling circuit, before making a surprise one-off appearance at the WWE’s Royal Rumble PPV in January of this year.

The heart of the matter

Over the past several weeks, Rey Mysterio has been in talks for a WWE return, however, it was 3 weeks ago that he suffered a bicep tear at a Northeast Wrestling event.

Regardless, several reports insinuated that the ex-WWE Champion could return at ‘Mania—including one by Sports Illustrated which noted the possibility of Mysterio returning at WrestleMania 34 to team up with Braun Strowman against The Bar (Sheamus & Cesaro).

Mysterio addressed the ongoing rumors of him performing at WrestleMania 34—

"Unfortunately I just suffered a torn bicep three weeks ago…I opted not to get surgery. It's a full tear, but I'm just going to sit back, do some therapy for it and hopefully I'll be back next month."

"This (WrestleMania) one’s going to be off the hook…There's going to be a lot of good matches."

What’s next?

Rey Mysterio was recently in Birmingham, Alabama to consult with the WWE’s doctors, so as to help in his rehab of the bicep tear.

Furthermore, Mysterio also appeared at last Sunday’s NJPW show in Long Beach, California—teasing a feud with Will Ospreay.

While Mysterio is set to perform at several indie events in the month of May, he’s expected to be back with the WWE sooner rather than later.

Author’s take

Rey Mysterio is an excellent performer and a true veteran of the sport.

It’s great to see him refrain from rushing back into the ring. A bicep tear can be tricky to handle, and patience is indeed key to recovery.

Sportskeeda wishes Rey Mysterio a safe & speedy recovery.
