WWE News: Rey Mysterio's meeting with Triple H was initially scheduled for before his injury
What's the story?
There's been a lot of talk over the past week about the future of Rey Mysterio - in particular, his potential returning to WWE and subsequent alleged torn bicep.
We reported earlier in the week that Rey Mysterio was set to meet Triple H next month to finalize a deal. It has now been reported that the former World Champion was meant to meet with Triple H before the reported injury occurred, only for the meeting to be called off.
In case you didn't know...
Rey Mysterio shocked the world when he returned to WWE for a one-off appearance at the Royal Rumble, and the reception from the WWE Universe apparently pushed for WWE to try and get Mysterio back on a more permanent basis.
The stumbling block came around how permanent said deal would be, with Rey Mysterio wanting a more flexible part-time deal where he would be allowed to work out with WWE, but Rey's Rumble reaction reportedly swayed WWE and a meeting was scheduled to try hammer out the final details before Mysterio seemingly injured his bicep in a tag team match for Northeast Wrestling.
The heart of the matter
Well, as per Mike Johnson of PW Insider, the story has taken another tragic turn as it turns out Mysterio was actually set to meet with Triple H before his injury occurred, but 'The Game' had to postpone.
Johnson reports that, according to WWE sources, Mysterio was originally scheduled to meet with Triple H at WWE HQ prior to the Northeast Wrestling event to try and lock down terms of a new contract with the company.
The meeting, however, was postponed as Triple H had to fly out to Saudi Arabia to finalize a new contract to confirm the future of live events in the sovereign Arab state over the next decade.
What's next?
As with most injuries, there's no timeframe yet for how long Rey Mysterio would miss if anything at all. We await further updates on the severity of his injury.
Mysterio is scheduled, however, to face Jushin Liger at the end of this month for New Japan Pro Wrestling on their Strong Style Evolved event in Long Beach. That match is slated for the 25th of March.
Author's take
I was pretty devastated when I heard about Mysterio's injury as I would have loved to see him back in WWE. Mysterio's the kind of guy who is a first ballot Hall of Famer when he eventually retires and whose name still holds incredible value in the world of wrestling.
Hopefully, the injury isn't too serious and he can meet with WWE to finalize a deal. We wish Rey Mysterio all the very best regardless!
