WWE News: Rey Mysterio will appear at the Greatest Royal Rumble
What's the story?
It has been reported today that the legendary Rey Mysterio will be flying out to Saudi Arabia to appear at WWE's Greatest Royal Rumble after being backstage at WrestleMania 34 this weekend.
In case you didn't know...
The former WWE Champion shocked the WWE Universe when he made a shock return in a one-off appearance at the Royal Rumble in January, receiving an incredible ovation and looking to be in great shape, too.
There had been rumours circulating that Rey Mysterio may be on track for a more permanent WWE return, but it was then announced that the Master of the 619 would be facing Jushin 'Thunder' Liger at a New Japan Pro Wrestling show.
This never went ahead due to injury, but Mysterio instead cut a promo about how he'd like to wrestle Liger, Will Ospreay and Marty Scurll - before Scurll attacked him and took his mask.
The heart of the matter
PWInsider.com has today confirmed that Rey Mysterio will be appearing at WWE's Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia later this month.
After his Royal Rumble appearance and being backstage at Wrestlemania 34, PW Insider have confirmed that Mysterio is heading to the huge event in Jeddah on April 27th.
Mike Johnson goes on to say in his report that Mysterio and WWE have been in discussions in recent weeks, but there's no confirmation of any solid deal yet - the only thing certain is that Rey Mysterio has agreed to appear at the huge event which will feature the first ever 50-man Royal Rumble.
What's next?
The Greatest Royal Rumble will be shown live globally on WWE Network from the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Friday, April 27.
Author's take
Well, the New Japan Pro Wrestling confirmed appearance, Mysterio's injury and the subsequent NJPW angle with Scurrl did seem to put things on the backburner, but it always seemed to be only a matter of time before the Mexican legend returned to WWE.
After the reaction Rey Mysterio received at the Royal Rumble, it's no shock that WWE have seemingly done everything they can to get their hands on their man - and I sincerely hope the appearance isn't just a one-off!
