WWE News: Ric Flair admits that he was in tears the whole week leading up to Charlotte Flair's WrestleMania 35 entrance
What's the story?
Entrances during WrestleMania events have become almost as anticipated as some of the matches on the card.
When speaking with CBS Sports, Ric Flair was asked about his daughter Charlotte Flair's entrance to the stadium during her main-event match at WrestleMania 35.
Flair revealed that 'he probably cried the whole week' leading up to the event. 411mania.com carried transcripts of Flair's interview.
In case you didn't know....
Superstars have been making grandiose entrances since the event started back in the mid 1980s.
Recently, superstars like John Cena and his Hollywood entrance or Triple H's annual entrances at the Show of Shows have made the matches even more anticipated.
The Undertaker and Randy Orton have also made memorable entrances during various 'Manias in the past. What they are memorable for, however, have been different.
The heart of the matter
Flair has been linked to a lifestyle of luxury and fast-living as evidenced by his 'limousine-riding' line in his character's usual promos.
Since he was famous for his limousine rides, Charlotte Flair's entrance during the main event of WrestleMania 35 was also going to be just a big since it was a Flair entrance and the first-ever main-event slot for the women.
To prove her stature as 'the Queen', she first flew via helicopter to the stadium and then entered the building on a red carpet.
Ric mentioned that he was so proud of Charlotte and that the entire week leading up to the actual show was filled with a lot of crying on his part.
“I probably cried the whole week, I’ve been crying since it first came about. I’m so thankful to WWE, from Vince [McMahon] to Hunter [Paul Levesque] and Stephanie [McMahon] and all the powers-that-be who put that together and taking that step forward with the woman.
'The Nature Boy' talked about how proud he was of his daughter and the other women as he believes Charlotte is already years ahead of where he was in his career.
For me, I’ve used the expression about passing the torch, but my daughter just took the torch from me years ago. She is so good but she is just getting going. She has only been in the business for six years, which is hard to believe. The thing about her that separates her from a lot of people is that she’s never satisfied with a performance. I was really proud and I’m proud of WWE for taking that step forward because they deserve it.”
What's next?
Flair wasn't the one pinned or submitted in the main event as Ronda Rousey suffered her first lost by pin in WWE at the event.
'The Queen' will likely be in the SmackDown Women's Title picture sooner rather than later and papa Flair will likely be glowing again once his daughter inches on title reign closer to eventually breaking his record.
