WWE News: Ric Flair gives update and says he's never drinking again

<p>
Keep on keeping on, Nature Boy

What's the story

Ric Flair recently battled a very serious illness which put him in the hospital and many thought he wasn't going to make it. Conflicting reports led some to believe it was much worse than it really was. But the reality, Flair's illness was incredibly bad and we almost lost The Nature Boy. He recently gave his first public interview since his illness and spoke to People Magazine about how this life-changing event would not be forgotten.

In case you didn't know...

When Flair was battling his recent illness, his family members including Charlotte Flair were told he only had a 20% chance of surviving. He was placed into a medically induced coma shortly after that and was rushed into surgery.

The Nature Boy's doctors removed part of Flair's bowel and inserted a pacemaker into the two-time WWE Hall Of Famer's body.

After that, it was all up to fate to decide whether Ric Flair would be able to recover.

The heart of the matter

While speaking to People Magazine, Ric Flair acknowledged how serious it got for him. It was touch and go and Flair admitted it "scared the sh*t" out of him. He went on to explain how he's been through a lot in his life but nothing of this magnitude or risk.

"I crashed in an airplane and broke my back, I've been hit by lightning [...] But this is totally different. Anything I've been through before is nothing like this."

Ric Flair went on to say he's "not out of the woods yet", but as he recovers from this illness, he can notice how his lifestyle was a big contributor to his situation.

Flair discussed how he never took a pain pill in his life, but he would always go out to the most expensive bar as soon as he showered after his match. He admitted he had a problem with moderation as well. But it was a part of being The Nature Boy at the time; after all, Flair lived his gimmick in every sense of the word.

"I've never taken a pain pill in my life [...] I'd just take a shower, flip my hair back and go to the best bar in town."

At this point in his life, as he prepares for the next phase, Ric Flair made the decision to give up drinking alcohol for good. He explained he's never drinking again because he doesn't want to go through this again.

We don't want him to go through anything like this again either.

What's next

Ric Flair will hopefully be able to Style and Profile once again in no time. He already seems to be in great spirits and it might only be a matter of time before the WWE Universe gets a dose of The Nature Boy's "wooo" once again.

Author's take

It's great to hear Ric Flair is doing better and even more amazing he's making the decision to correct some of those mistakes he once made. He's been through a lot which led him to drink whether it was to celebrate or mourn. But it looks like The Nature Boy's survived another scary situation.

Let's hope he'll be around for years to come and might even be able to induct Charlotte Flair into the WWE Hall Of Fame when her time to join the prestigious collection of wrestling personalities comes.
