WWE News: Rich Brennan discusses issues with Tom Phillips

Rich Brennan doesn’t see eye to eye with Tom Phillips

What’s the story?

Former WWE announcer Rich Brennan has spoken out about his time in the company which includes some issues that he had with current WWE commentator Tom Phillips. He discussed the topics on a recent episode of the Intelligent Wrestling Conversation podcast.

In case you didn’t know...

Brennan, who made his debut down in NXT back in 2014, was released from the company a few weeks after WrestleMania 32. After enjoying some early success, Brennan was promoted to the role of lead announcer on SmackDown; however, it wasn’t long before he was relegated to just being a backstage interviewer.

The heart of the matter

In the aforementioned podcast, Brennan made it sound as if he and Tom Phillips didn’t really get along all too well. He also stated that Phillips “made it difficult” for his friend Alex Del Barrio down at the Performance Center, with Del Barrio also eventually being released. Phillips has had his fair share of controversy as of late, with some not safe for work messages released to the world a few weeks back that indicated he was having an affair.

What’s next?

There’s a possibility that things could continue to spiral for Phillips if there are more incidents such as these to be uncovered. If that happens, then he probably won’t be afforded the same leniency as JBL, who has also been embroiled in a number of scandals lately connected to rumours that he is a bully behind the scenes.

Author’s take

Phillips is coming across worse and worse as the weeks and months go on, which is a shame because he’s quite a talented commentator. Brennan didn’t make too much noise in the WWE, but it’s still not great to hear these kinds of things be leaked, especially when you consider all of the bad press that the company has been receiving as of late.
