WWE News: Rich Swann and Cedric Alexander to continue teaming?
What's the story?
Rich Swann and Cedric Alexander were successful in tag team action last night at WWE TLC against The Brian Kendrick and Gentleman Jack Gallagher, and the pair were interviewed following their victory. The cruiserweight duo hinted that they might be continuing as a full-time tag team moving forward.
In case you didn't know...
Rich Swann and Cedric Alexander are two of the most talented performers on the entire WWE roster, yet both continue to flounder somewhat in the struggling cruiserweight division. Swann had a short WWE Cruiserweight Championship run last year, defeating The Brian Kendrick on the first episode of 205 Live before dropping the title to Neville at the Royal Rumble.
Alexander has been involved in a number of aimless storylines, primarily a feud with Noam Dar. A knee injury kept him out of action for a number of months, before he returned to vanquish Dar and move into a struggle with The Brian Kendrick and Gentleman Jack Gallagher.
The heart of the matter
Alexander and Swann were interviewed about their victory following the match, with Alexander saying that he knew he could rely on the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion having his back in his battle with Gallagher and Kendrick. Swann reaffirmed this, along with showing a dreadlock that the heels had beaten out of his head.
The duo were somewhat reticent when it came to the future, telling the WWE Universe to 'just wait and see' before leaving the segment together. It was all but a confirmation that we can expect to see more of the high-flying duo in the future.
What's next?
The WWE Cruiserweight Championship was regained by Enzo Amore at WWE TLC, putting the babyfaces of the division back on notice. Alexander and Swann will both be considered top tier players in the division, and either man can step up to challenge the "Realest Champ in the Room" going forward.
Author's take
Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose vs. Cedric Alexander and Rich Swann? Yes, please. How about Cesaro and Sheamus going up against the cruiserweight tandem? Consider me sold. Alexander and Swann are both criminally under-used in the company, victims of the relatively cold cruiserweight division.
Both men could be huge assets to the entire roster and deserve more than to be somewhat contained by 205 Live and the purple ropes of the cruiserweight division. Alexander and Swann as a high-energy babyface tag team is magic waiting to happen.
