What’s the story?

WWE NXT’s newest signee Ricochet recently sat down for a candid interview with Byron Saxton for WWE.com and during the conversation, the 29-year-old opened up about his career goals, the motivators behind his innovative style, and more.

In case you didn’t know…

At the age of 29, Trevor “Ricochet” Mann has already established himself as one of the best in-ring competitors of all time and having previously competed for promotions such as Lucha Underground, NJPW, PWG, Evolve Wrestling and more; Ricochet is truly one of the most exciting wrestlers to watch whenever he takes the ring.

Earlier this year, Ricochet made his much-awaited WWE debut when he finally signed a deal with the company’s developmental brand, NXT. The Paducah native also competed in the first-ever NXT North American Title match at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, two weeks ago.

The heart of the matter

While speaking with Byron Saxton for WWE.com, Ricochet spoke about a host of wrestling related topics and below are the highlights from the interview: (H/T: Wrestling Inc)

The motivators behind his unique and innovative in-ring style:

Ricochet stated that his current in-ring style is pretty much a combination that has been inspired by all his favorite wrestlers growing up, such as the likes of AJ Styles, Matt Sydal, Amazing Red, Jack Evans, and WWE legend The Rock as well.

“Well, my style is a combination of all my favorite wrestlers growing up, between AJ Styles, Matt Sydal (aka Evan Bourne), Amazing Red, Jack Evans and a lot of The Rock. (Laughs) But I try to take something from all those guys and combine it into what I wanted to be inside the ring.”

His current career goal:

According to Ricochet, he noted that now that he has finally made it to the big stage (referring to the WWE) his only goal is to make sure that he becomes the best in-ring performer, so that he can prove himself to be an inspiration for his son and anyone who doesn't think their dreams are possible because of where they're from or their circumstances.

“Honestly, when I first started, I never thought I'd make it to the WWE. So now that I am here, my only goal is to become the best performer I can be and try to be an inspiration for my son and anyone, really, who doesn't think their dreams are possible because of where they're from or their circumstances. If I can inspire even one person to follow their dreams, then it will all be worth it!”

A message for all his supporters:

In addition, Ricochet thanked all of his fans and showed his gratitude towards those who have supported him along the way in his journey and his rise to the very top.

“I'd just like to say thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. It's because of you all that I am where I am and get to do what I do. I know it gets said a lot, but it gets said because it's true. So, just thank you all so very much.”

What’s next?

Ricochet is currently scheduled to begin a newly ignited feud against The Velveteen Dream in NXT and as previously reported, the two men could very well square-off against each other at NXT TakeOver: Chicago later this year.
