WWE News: Rob Van Dam "disqualified" from WWE due to concussions, suffering financial loss during messy divorce
What's the story?
It's been a while since the WWE Universe last saw Rob Van Dam perform in the ring. During his time he had some of the top fan favourite matches but in his older age, all of the danger he put his body through for the fans' enjoyment might have paid off in a negative way.
The Blast website has obtained documents filed during RVD's divorce from his wife, Sonya which paint a different picture of the innovator of the 5 Star Frog Splash's current situation.
In case you didn't know
Rob Van Dam is not only a former WWE Champion but he had some of the most high-risk and outstanding matches in ECW back in the day. His wars against and with Sabu and Jerry Lynn are legendary but they all took a terrible toll on his body.
The heart of the matter...
In these documents obtained as part of the divorce proceedings, Rob Van Dam claims he should pay less because he no longer has the income of a pro wrestling Superstar.
The documents state that on November 12th, 2016 he suffered a concussion that "caused visual impairment" and also "disqualified" RVD from working for WWE. Included in these documents was a confirmation of his medical evaluation and a copy of WWE's Concussion Management protocol.
When asked by the judge about what happened, RVD told him he has "aged out" of wrestling. He had a merchandising deal with WWE which ran out in July 2017.
What's next?
Hopefully, Rob Van Dam will be able to figure out a new path in life if he can't wrestle. It's an awful situation but one all too common in the world of pro wrestling at this point which is a real shame.
Author's take
RVD was one of my favourites in the ECW days and that translated as he had wars with many of WWE's top Superstars. It's unfortunate how his WWE Championship came to an end after his car was pulled over and the police didn't approve of what they found.
But maybe this isn't the end of the story for RVD. After all, he still has a great mind for wrestling. It's just a shame if he is indeed "disqualified" from coming back to WWE due to another concussion.
